Vocabulary Spring List #5

1. Brouhaha: An uproar.
There was a brouhaha happening in the town square.

2. Cloy: To weary by an excess of food, sweatness, pleasure, etc...
Eating to much food can cause a cloy.

3. Demeanor: A person's mannors towards others.
Her demeanor was so harsh and cold to even watch.

4. Deference: Curteous submission to opinion or wishes of another.
She had a kind of deference with the way she treated people.

5. Enigmatic: Like an enigma; puzzling.
That is a very enigmatic way to answer that question.

6. Definitive: Precisely defining or outlining; final.
That dress is so definitive on her, forming to her body.

7. Bumptious: Cruely forward and self-assertive in behavior.
He is so bumptious that no one wants to be his friend.

8. Choleric: Bad tempered; irritable.
My mom is a choleric person when we don't listen to her.

9. Bulwark: A wall of similar structure of defence.
 We hide behind the bulwark when we are having a snowball fight.

10. Curtail: To cut short or irritate.
All of his sentences were curtail and mean.

11. Adamant: Unyielding; inflexible.
His decisions were all adamant and permanately set.

12. Profligate: Recklessly wasteful or extravagant.
The United States is very profligate.

13. Mawkish: Excessively and abnoxiously sentimental.
Everytime my friend watches a sad movie, he gets really mawkish.

14.Thwart: To prevent from taking place.
I tried to thwart the ducks, but they were stubborn.

15. Onus: Burden; blame.
My parents sometimes give me an onus.

16. Requisite: Required; necessary.
Filling out all of the forms is requisite.

17. Mollify: To placate; calm.
I tried to mollify the situation.

18. Sartorial: Pertaining to tailors or tailoring.
 Sewing is a sartorial notion.

19. Presentiment: A sense of something to occur.
My cat has presentiment when it is about to rain.

20. Impromptu: To preform (improv) without rehearsal.
The guys on whose line is it anyway do an impromptu.

21. Forbearance: To prohibit.
It's a forbearance to disagree with your parents.

22. Remit: To send; to cancel.
I need to remit my email.
