Spring Vocabulary #2

1. Patronage: The power to control appointments.
The artist was grateful for the patronage.

2. Cadence: A rythmic flow of a sequence of sound or words.
After the audience heard the pleasing cadence, they all got up and had a standing ovation.

3. Suffused: To overspread with a liquid.
This sponge is completely suffused with water.

4. Sieve: A strainer.
The sand was sieved and all the remains where thrown out.

5. Centrifuge: A compartment spun around an axis to separate contained materials of different densities.
 I put the liquids into the centrifuge and it separated them by density.

6. Dentifrice: Tooth paste.
Please clean your teeth with the dentifrice.

7. Leisure: Unhurried ease.
She spends her leisure time making dolls.

8. Vessel: A hollow container to hold liquid.
Many vases are also called vessel.

9. Saccharine: Excessively sweet.
Her saccharine smile made me stop and say hello to her.

10. Phonograph: Record player.
The music started playing on the old phonograph.

11. Profusion: Abundance.
There is a profuse amount of sand in the desert.

12. Praetorian: Forming or resembling the Roman Imperial bodyguard

13. Veiled: Having or wearing a veil or a conceiling cover
14. Harlequin: A character in comedy with a shaved head, masked face, tights and wooden sword.
15. Toil: Hard work
16. Delinquents: People who commit crimes.
17. Gibber: To speak meaninglessly
18. Insidious: Intended to entrap or beguile
19. Strewn: To scatter or sprinkle.
