Twilight: The first book
GENERAL
1. Isabella Swan moved to the gloomy town of Forks and meets the mysterious Edward Cullen. There is something unique about this Edward Cullen and Bella is determined to uncover his dark secret. What Bella doesn't realize is that the closer she gets to him, the more she is putting herself at risk. It might be too late to turn back.
2. The theme of the novel is, that no matter what you go through, as long as you have love, nothing can separate what is meant to be.
3. "Which left me with nothing to do but try to not look at him... unsuccessfully." Pg. 46 The authors tone here is very passionate, because these things happen in real life unspokenly and she was able to incorporate it into her writing. "The worst part about Friday was that, even though I knew he wasn't going to be there, I still hoped." Pg. 111 The tone here is also passion, when you know something isn't going to happen but you still have hope. "I hope you were more creative this time... or are you still stealing from comic books?" Pg. 171 The tone here is laughable, by the way it made a joke you can tell the author enjoys what she does.
4. "I stared without breathing across the long room, into the dark eyes of the hunter, and he looked pleasantly back at me." Pg. 1 This quote is an example of imagery, because it describes what it going on and helps you picture it.
CHARACTERIZATION
1. "He had the long sleeves of his white shirt pushed up to his elbows." Pg. 24 This quote is a direct characterization about how the boy physically looks. "He was glaring down at me again." Pg. 24 This one is an indirect characterization about how his looks say how he isn't a very nice person. "When the school day was finally done, and the blush was fading out of my cheeks from the volleyball incident..." Pg. 31 This quote is indirect, because of her blushing face, you can tell that she is an innocent girl. "Of the three boys, one was big- muscled like a serious weight lifter, with dark, curly hair." Pg. 18 This last quote is a direct characterization explaining how Emmett looks physically. The author uses both approaches, so you can not only see what a character looks like, but you are able to understand how they act and know the way they think. My lasting impression on the character is always different, and it helps me to create the preson in my mind.
2. The syntax and diction changes when the author focuses on a character, because she wants you to feel apart of the character. "Laundry, and then I have to study for the Trig test or I'm going to fail." Pg. 249 This quote helps you to sypathize with the character and understand what she is going through. You are able to really relate with what is going on.
3. The protagonist is dynamic and round, because in the beginning Bella was just a simple girl who didn't want to be noticed and in the end everything changed. She got everything she wanted, even when she wasn't planning on it.
4. After reading the book I felt like a met a new person and read a new character completely. I learned all about Bella and everything she likes and dislikes. In a way, it was like I was talking with a real person and listening to their life story.
